The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) has increased the area of the Galápagos biosphere reserve to 14. 6 million hectares, making it one of the largest marine reserves in the world.
Danny Rueda, a Galápagos park ranger, suggested that this is a good thing for the country and for the world. The Ministry of Environment will continue promote and strengthen policies that allow for the conservation of unique ecosystems and biological diversity, as well as economic and sustainable human development for local populations, and logistical support for educational projects and environmental research.
